| Tatting – a great craft for moms with babies and toddlers around

When you have little ones around, crawling into your lap or you might find yourself in a need to put down your work in a hurry and there’s a danger of little hands reaching them.. Tatting shuttles are by far a lot safer than having knitting needles or crochet hooks around. Also – once you’ve been tatting for a while you can do some of it without using a shuttle at all – just your fingers! That’s called finger tatting. Great to take with you or just work on it at home. Or when you find yourself in a situation when you only have yarn and nothing than your hands to work it with. And the result will actually look lovely and presentable even when using just your fingers.

For a relaxing experience you might try tatting a simple edging which later you can add even to a store-bought item to make it more special and personalized. Tatting can use a shuttle with a little hook or a shuttle without one. A pattern might also call for two shuttles.
